The (un)official start of summer

Memorial day weekend marks the unofficial start of summer.  The pools open, bbq's begin and Nola heat ensues.  We are spending the weekend swimming with the baby, barbecuing with neighbors and relaxing in Mississippi.  This refreshing libation looks like the perfect partner in crime for the weekend.

Strawberry Basil Spritzer 

1/2 cup fresh basil leaves
6 strawberries, trimmed and quartered
1 1/2 cup of white wine of choice (I'd stick with something light and/or citrusy)
yield: 2 spritzers

Rub basil to bring out flavors.  Add it into pitcher with strawberries and wine and refrigerate for at least 4 hours to allow flavors to infuse.   Pour over a glass of ice and top with soda water.  Doesn't that sound refreshing?
